Have you ever made homemade slime before? It’s actually quite fun to do! If your kids love unicorns and they love slime, then they will absolutely love this unicorn slime. This unicorn slime can be adapted to your favorite colors too! We picked our favorite colors of a unicorn being – pink, blue and gold. But you could make it rainbow colored or add purple or green too!

Unicorn Slime – an easy slime recipe!
This unicorn slime is made up of 3 different colors of glitter slime. This method for making glitter slime is by far the easiest and it can be changed to make any color! So feel free to adapt and make this slime whatever unicorn colors you like the best.
Safety Tips: Adults only should make the slime and handle all chemicals. Do not substitute any ingredients in our slime recipes. If you have sensitive skin, wear gloves while playing with the slime. Always wash hands before and after use. If you notice any skin irritation discontinue use immediately. See the bottom of the post for more safety precautions before making the slime.Â
Once you have made your colored glitter slime you can place them together side by side to blend them together.
You can have fun playing with your slime on its own, include it in a party favor for a unicorn party.
When you’re done making the slime, just twist the colors together and you can turn it into unicorn poop! (Silly we know but the kids will get a kick out of it!).
Ingredients Needed to Make Unicorn Slime
Repeat each of the below for each color (you’ll need to make 3 batches of the glitter slime to form your unicorn slime)
Per batch:Â
- 1 bottle of Elmer’s glitter glue (6 oz) – we used pink, yellow, and blue and repeated the recipe 3 times. Note: we made this with Elmer’s glitter glue. Do not substitute with other glue as the make-up may not be the same and the recipe may not work
- Pink, Gold, and Blue Glitter – use lots of glitter to get the same shiny effect. We like this brand of glitter. You can also use biodegradable glitter.
- 1/2 teaspoon of Baking Soda
- 1½ tablespoons of Contact lens solution. **Important: your brand of contact lens solution must have boric acid and sodium borate in the ingredient list. This is what interacts with the glue to form the slime. Renu Fresh contains Boric Acid and Sodium Borate. Do not substitute for other brands. Check the label before buying to make sure it has the right ingredients.
- Water – add up to 1/4 cup of water for a more stretchy slime

Slime Recipe to Make Unicorn Slime
1. Get a bowl to mix your slime ingredients in.
2. Pour your entire 6 oz Elmer’s Glitter glue into the bowl.
3. Add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and mix in thoroughly.
Also add up to 1/4 cup of water if you want a more stretchy slime.
4. Now add your glitter in and continue to mix.
5. Slowly add in your contact lens solution (Reminder: your contact lens solution should contain boric acid or your slime will not form).
Add it in slowly and mix if possible so that you can adjust and ensure you do not add too much.
We like to add a few teaspoons at a time and then mix.
Knead and mix thoroughly before adding more as you do not want to add too much or your slime will get too hard.
You may not need the full amount so take this step slowly.
6. Now mix until your slime forms and begins to harden.
Take it out and knead, knead, knead. You may be surprised how much you need to knead to really make the slime form. It will be very sticky at this point. Especially if you added water. Keep kneading and stretching the slime and it will become less sticky.
If it’s not the desirable consistency keep kneading. Only add a little more contact solution a teaspoon at a time to prevent the slime from becoming too hard.
If you still find it to still be too sticky, add a little bit of lotion or baby oil to your hands.
Now you’re done and you can play with your new slime! Mix the colors together or play with them separately to keep their color.
What Are the Best Slime Containers
I typically store my Unicorn Slime in a large Ziplock bag with the air removed. But if you want to use slime containers, these plastic containers that come with labels that you can use for the type of slime you create are great! They’re just $17 at Amazon for a pack of 12.

I know this is an older article but hopefully you’ll see this… does this leave glitter all over your hands? I want to make it for my daughter’s birthday party but don’t want to send home a bunch of girls covered in glitter! ?
From my experience as long as it’s mixed in well it shouldn’t come off. If you use really chunky large glitter this can tend to fall out, but regular size glitter we usually don’t have a problem. 🙂
My 4yr old granddaughter and I just made pink slim..so much fun. Thanks for sharing ?
I just made this with the kids and it turned out great. Thanks for the recipe!
can elmers clear glue and no Glitter be used as well?
Yes! 🙂
Have you tried making this slime with half a bottle of the Elmer’s glitter glue (for each color)? If so, did it turn out ok? Did you cut the other ingredients in half too?Â
Looking forward to making this for my daughter’s Bday party but want to spread out the supplies as much as possible!
Hi – we haven’t cut the recipe in half ourselves but that shouldn’t be a problem to do. It should still work!
Can you use normal glue and normal glitter
Hi Alleya – yes you can use regular glue. We recommend regular Elmers white glue and you can add food coloring to color it.
Can you put just regular glitter in this instead of using glitter glue
You can! We like using the glitter glue because it saves you from having to use dye to color the glue and is less messy.
Mine keeps turning out wet and not stretchy ..help please
Adding the water makes it more stretchy so you can make the recipe without the water but the slime won’t be as stretchy. If it’s too wet usually this means you need to knead it more or add a little more contact solution (just 1/2 tsp at a time). Hope that helps!
the best slime is fluffy slime with the small balls inside
The best slime might be the galaxy slime or pastel fluffy slime!!!????
I LOVED IT??????
the best
HELP!! Loved the recipe! What should I do if it’s too stiff and doesn’t really stretch much before ripping? Please help save my slime! Thank you!
To make the slime stretchier, we like to add water. Also make sure you add in the contact lens solution really slowly. The less you add, the better it will be as it makes it harder and not as stretchy. Hope that helps!
You probably over activated the slime and that’s why it rips and doesn’t stretch.
Add Some Lotion.
How long does it last for in a plastic container?
In an air tight container it should last at least a week. 🙂
Can you add food coloring if we can not find colored glue that is affordable?
Yes! You can substitute for Elmers or any white PVA glue and tint with food coloring.
Great idea, going to try this with the kids I babysit for tomorrow. Thank you for sharing this recipe!
Pretty slime. But once twisted and played with, won’t it all just blend and become one color?
Yes unfortunately if you mix the colors too much they will become blended. 🙂
Mine doesn’t go hard it’s still really runny?? What can I add to make it harden?
Janice the contact lens solution is what turns the glue into slime. Make sure yours has sodium borate and boric acid in it. If it’s still too runny, add a little more in a teaspoon at a time. Too much and it may become too stiff.
This was perfect! So easy and really fun!
How do you recommend that I store it? Ziplock bag? Baby food jar? Thanks 🙂
Any air tight container will do. If you use a bag just make sure you take all of the excess air out when sealing. 🙂
Tupperware would be best to store slime.
Awesome! It’s cold in Minnesota so we do a lot of indoor activities and art. My daughter and niece loved their slime! What a cool cheap activity!
So glad you had fun Nicole! Thanks for sharing 🙂
tried 3 recipes and threw it out. This recipe worked perfect!ly!! thank you!

That’s so great to hear Michelle! Thanks for commenting! 🙂
Can wait to try this!
We hope you have fun Betty!
what if we don’t have solution
You need the contact solution for the slime to form unfortunately.
