Supplies Needed
- Paper roll – paper towel roll cut down or a toilet paper roll
- Black cardstock – we used 12×12 size but a smaller size would work and you could stamp in a landscape orientation. You can also use construction paper.
- Acrylic paint – tempera paint also works well (do not use neon paint on black cardstock as it will not dry vibrant enough to see the paint)
- Chalk marker or acrylic paint marker – for the vine. You can also paint the vine on or use a chalk pastel.
- Black permanent marker – to draw the lines on the pumpkins

How to Make Paper Roll Pumpkin Stamps
1. Form the paper roll into a pumpkin shape.
Bend the paper roll in the center to form it into a pumpkin shape (this shape also works well as an apple!).
2. Dip the paper roll into paint and stamp.
Stamp the paper roll in the paint, making sure to coat the entire paper roll end. Stamp the paper roll onto your paper. In between each stamp, stamp it back into the paint. Kids can also stamp as many as they’d like!
Tip
Stamp on the side of the paper roll you do not cut so that it is flush with the paper.
3. Paint the pumpkins.
You can leave the pumpkins as is or paint the inside of the shapes you stamped. If using black paper, you may need to do a few coats of the orange paint.
4. Add a stem and vines.
With a chalk marker, paint marker or paint, draw a stem coming out of each pumpkin.
Then, draw or paint some vines going from each pumpkin. Add some swirls in between to make it look more like a pumpkin vine.
5. Add the pumpkin lines.
Once the orange paint has fully dried, you can add the pumpkin lines. Use a black permanent marker, black paint or acrylic paint marker to draw the lines on.
We made the two center lines at a wider distance to give a more realistic pumpkin shape.
This is such a fun and simple pumpkin art activity for Halloween! Kids will love making their own pumpkin patch. You can also stamp thumbprints or knuckles for a similar effect.
