- 1 paper roll
Steps to Make a Toilet Paper Roll Car
1. Cut out the templates.
You can make your own or use the templates from my book – Cut & Color Crafts for Kids.
2. Color the templates.
Color the race car cut-outs. This sample project was colored with markers.
If you do not have the book, kids can also draw their own designs to add to the car.
3. Cut out a race car seat in the top of the paper roll.
Draw out a shape in the top of the paper roll for the race car seat. Make this approximately 2 inches (5 cm) long. Cut out the shape.
4. Add colored cardstock on top.
Wrap the colored cardstock around the paper roll to measure it for size. Cut out the cardstock. Then, use the cut-out paper roll piece as a template to trace with a pencil on the cardstock and cut out the same race car seat shape from the colored cardstock.
Glue the cardstock around the paper roll.
You can also paint the paper roll.
5. Glue on the race car templates.
Glue the longer cut-out detail to the sides of the car and the small cut-out detail to the top of the car.
6. Glue on the wheels.
Glue the wheels to the thin cardboard. Cut out the wheels, and then glue them to the sides of the paper roll.
This paper roll car is really fun to make! Kids can play with their race cars after they are done and see what toys fit inside of them.
