Snail Sensory Bag – Sensory Activity for Kids
My book – Cut & Color Crafts for Kids: 35 Super Cool Activities That Bring Recycled Materials to Life is bursting with easy crafts and activities like this one. You get all of the templates in the back of the book. You just need to cut, color and create with everyday objects that you have at home!
You can get this snail template as a BONUS for pre-ordering my new book! Simply send a screenshot of your pre-order to bookbonus {at} thebestideasforkids.com or contact me HERE.
It’s easy for kids to customize this sensory bag too! They can color the snail in their favorite colors with crayons, markers or even paint. Instead of pom poms, you can also use small beads.
Supplies To Make a Snail Sensory Bag
- Sealed Bag – we used Large Ziploc Bags
- Clear Hair Gel – you may need 1 or 2 bottles depending on the size of the bottle. Check your dollar store for a low cost option. You can also use clear shampoo or body wash gel, just be aware these create more bubbles in the bag.
- Small pom poms
- Coloring supply – we used markers but you can also color in with crayons, colored pencils or paint.
- Snail Template – You can get this template as a BONUS for pre-ordering my new book! See directions below on how to get the template!

Steps To Make a Snail Sensory Bag
1. Print off the template. If you would like to get the template, pre-order my new book and send me a message either through our contact page HERE or on Instagram with a screenshot of your pre-order. You can also email me at bookbonus {at} thebestideasforkids.com.
2. Start by coloring the snail template. This sample project was colored with markers.
Then, cut it out.
3. Add clear hair gel into the bag. Fill it so that it is easy for the pom poms to move around. You can also use clear shampoo or body wash but it will create more bubbles in the bag.
4. Then add in your pom poms. If you are finding it is difficult to move the pom poms around in the bag, add more hair gel in.
5. Seal the bag.
To prevent younger kids from opening the bag, add extra duct tape on top of the bag to seal the bag closed. Always supervise when using small pieces with kids.
Tape the snail template down and the bag so that it does not move around.
The bag is now ready to use! Kids will love moving the pom poms to make a spiral pattern on the snail shell.
This is also a great activity to practice fine motor skills.
