Need a simple activity for the first day back to school? Kids can write about their first day back to school, goals for the year or anything school-related in these printable back to school crafts. Choose between a pencil, crayon or eraser!

Free Printable Back to School Crafts

These cards are simple to make – you can even just choose to print and use as classroom decoration! Or add a writing prompt to them and use the inside portion of the templates for kids to write on.

Supplies Needed

White cardstock
Paint – different colors for the cards and pink for the cheeks
Large googly eyes – these are 25mm size
Black marker
Glue
Templates – you can get the templates emailed to you at the bottom of the post

How to Make the Back to School Crafts

1. Print off the templates.

You can get the templates sent to you at the bottom of the post.

2. Color the templates.

Color the templates using paint or markers. We only colored the front of the cards. You can also cut out the front only and just make them as a craft to decorate a classroom with.

3. Cut out the cards and add googly eyes.

Cut out the cards and fold over. If you are not making cards just cut out the top part you painted or colored.

Glue on the googly eyes. You can also draw on eyes.

4. Draw on a mouth and add the cheeks.

Draw on the mouth with a black marker. To add the pink cheeks, dip the back of a paintbrush or pencil into pink paint and dab on the sides of the mouth.

5. Add the inside writing part of the card.

Cut out the inside writing template and glue inside the cards. This part is optional and only if you want pre-printed lines for kids to write on. You can also print the templates double-sided to avoid the extra paper and cutting.

These back to school crafts make the cutest classroom or bulletin board decoration for the first week back to school! Kids will love making their own eraser, crayon or pencil come to life!
