What is Fluffy Slime?
Fluffy slime is really just regular slime made with shaving cream added. The amount of shaving cream you add will change the texture and consistency of the slime. The more you add, the “fluffier” it will be. If you just want it to be a little fluffy, then this recipe will walk you through how much shaving cream to use. The fun part about making slime is experimenting with different amounts to see how the slime forms.
If you want to make sure your slime turns out – be sure to read the instructions carefully. The type of contact lens solution you need and glue is very important! Substituting these ingredients for other brands may result in your slime not working. We also do not recommend substituting the brands we recommend.
Slime Recipe for Fluffy Slime
If you’re looking for a general slime recipe, our base slime recipe can be found here: How to Make Slime With Contact Solution. We like to use contact lens solution instead of pure borax in our slime recipes. We recommend you try this basic recipe to start if you haven’t made slime before. It is easier to make than fluffy slime and will give you an idea on how much you need to knead and work the slime for it to form.
Fluffy slime is a lot of fun for kids to play with – however we recommend adult supervision and that adults should make the slime. See more safety tips at the bottom of this post before making your slime.
Once you have your fluffy slime made, have fun stretching and squishing it. Fluffy slime will leave indentations when you press on it which regular slime won’t do as easily. It’s a bit harder to stretch as it gives a fluffy consistency instead.
How Long Does Slime Last?
The fluffiness will only last a day. So if you do plan on storing it for future use, just note that the shaving cream settles and the next day it won’t be as fluffy. You can still continue to play with it after the first day but it will turn into a consistency more like regular slime. Store in an air tight container and it should last at least 1 week.
Fluffy Slime Ingredients
If you want a large batch – triple the below recipe. Or make 3 batches with 3 different colors like we did and turn your slime into Unicorn Fluffy Slime!
Per batch:
- 2/3 cup of Elmer’s White Glue – we like to buy this gallon size of white glue as it’s a lot cheaper and you can continue to use it to make more batches.
Note: we made this with Elmer’s white glue. Do not substitute with other glue as the make-up may not be the same and the recipe may not work
- 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1/4 Cup Water
- 2-3 cups Shaving Cream – note: do not use shave gel.
- 1.5 Tablespoons Contact Lens Solution – *Important: your brand of contact lens solution must have boric acid and sodium borate in the ingredient list. This is what interacts with the glue to form the slime. We recommend only using Renu fresh or Equate brand. Do not substitute with other brands.

How to Make Fluffy Slime
1. Add your white glue to a bowl.
2. Add you water and baking soda and then mix.
3. Add your shaving cream and mix.
4. Add your food coloring until you are satisfied with the color. Mix.
5. Now slowly add in your contact solution.
**Important: your brand of contact lens solution must have boric acid and sodium borate in the ingredient list. This is what interacts with the glue to form the slime. If slime does not form it is typically due to the contact lens solution not having these ingredients. Check your label and see the recommended brands above in our ingredient list.
We like to add in 1 tablespoon, knead for 5 minutes and then add in the 1/2 tablespoon after kneading for some time. The slime will be very sticky when you’re kneading – and that’s normal!
The first tablespoon you add will let you start to knead it. And the last 1/2 tablespoon will bring the stickiness down and it shouldn’t be sticking as much to your hands.
Note- fluffy slime is MESSY when you’re making it. It is normal that it will stick to your hands as you’re kneading.
If you find it still too sticky – add some baby oil or lotion to your hands. You can also add more contact solution if it’s still too sticky, just a little bit at a time. If you add too much contact solution the slime may become too hard and won’t be as stretchy to play with.
Now repeat the above recipe for each color you’d like to make. Note: Once you mix the colors together they will eventually mix into one color like play dough does. So you can keep them separately or mix and see what happens! If you make all 3 colors it may turn to gray so if you want to end up with purple just mix the pink and purple together.
Now you’re done and you can play with it!
The slime will keep for at least a week in an air tight container. As mentioned above, you’ll lose the fluffiness factor after the first day, but it is still fun to play with!

I just bought some slime activator on Amazon. Would this work in place of the contact solution?
Yes that should work too. Just make sure to read all of the instructions and add it in very slowly so you won’t over-activate it. Also, you do not need the baking soda in that case, that is only if you use contact solution.
it is so fun!!!
Hello! The recipe worked great. The only thing is it’s a bit too sticky, I’ve tried adding contact solution but it just doesn’t seem to work.
Usually it just needs to be kneaded more. If after kneading for some time you’re still finding it sticky add a little lotion or baby oil to your hands.
My kids loved this one better than any slime we’d done before!
My slime keeps snapping in half when I stretch it out. What can I do to prevent it
This is usually from adding too much contact solution. Note that fluffy slime is less stretch overall, it won’t let you stretch it too far. If you want a stretchier slime try our regular slime recipe. 🙂
We found that if too sticky, just keep adding contact solution. I wound up using about a quarter of a bottle for 1 batch, but came out great. My grand kids loved it and had fun playing with it. We plan on using it as an activity at our school’s Science Trick and treat event. My grand daughter will do a live demonstration and allowing the other students to help…I cannot wait to see the kids reaction tomorrow.
Worked great i used glitter glue it’s what my grand daughter wanted thanks happy child happy parents and moma
Worked great! My 9 year old son and I just kept adding contact solution (renufresh) until it formed. My 3 year old wanted to play with the slime and the next day with this recipe, the slime is more like putty. Its not sticky, so he always gets the next day slime to play with. Both boys happy!
Couldn’t get ours to work.
Eye solution had the necessary ingredients but couldnt get that brand.
Help!
Hi Cecil – if it has the right ingredients it should be ok. We have only tested the 2 brands we recommend so that is why we do not like to substitute. Also make sure if you do substitute that you read all of the labels and precautions to ensure it is safe to use.
Worked out great!!!
This recipe worked great! The kids loved it! I used Bausch & Lomb advanced eye relief eye wash because it was less money. It worked great! Thank you!
Thank you for this recipe, gonna try it this weekend.
Can you add glitter to the fluffy slime? If yes, at what stage shall I add the glitter, or can I use some glitter glue in addition to the white glue ?
You can add glitter at any stage as long as you mix it in! I wouldn’t recommend glitter glue unless you want to avoid using food coloring. Because of the shaving cream the glitter doesn’t really show with the fluffy slime recipe. If you want extra glitter, adding separately would work better. 🙂
I am planning on making this with my class (25 kiddos). Could you tell me about how much the recipe makes so I can figure out my shopping list??
It makes one batch of fluffy slime but kids can split that between 2-3 students if you want a smaller amount. The video shows the amount that is made in terms of volume. Hope that helps!
hey this fluffy slime recipe is really awesome to look at
I love it
Is it OK to use Elmers clear glue?
You can however we don’t recommend it. Clear glue tends to be a little less stretchy than regular white glue so with fluffy slime already being less stretchy than regular slime it will make it just a bit harder to stretch. Otherwise if you’re fine with that you can definitely still use it!
My daughter and I make fluffy slime all the time similar to this recipe and ours lasts quite a long time, I’d say the first batch we made was probably a month ago and is still as good as the day we made it. ?
We made this slime today for my daughters birthday party…it went over really well, all the girls said it was the best ever!!! I’m not sure if anyone else has commented on this but I found one can of Barbasol shave cream made 7 batches exactly with using 2 cups per recipe. Thanks!!
That’s great to hear, thanks for sharing Emily!
Made this today with my son and it worked perfectly! We used glow in the dark Elmer’s glue and it still worked amazing and glows great. Thanks!
That’s great to hear, thank you for sharing your feedback!
We made this today – finally, a fluffy slime recipe that works! The kids loved it. Thank you!
Thanks Jen!! We’re glad you had fun!
I made it and it was pretty good
We still can’t get the slime to thicken. We have added another cup of shaving foam so now 4 cups but the consistency is still far from stretchy. Any suggestions please.
Michele, adding more shaving cream will only make the slime more “fluffy”. If it is not turning into slime then it could be an issue with your brand of glue or contact lens solution. Are you using the brands we recommend above?
Ok. We are using “Lens Plus” OcuPure lens solution. Our glue is not “Elmers Glue” but something similar. We can’t get Elmers here in Kenya. Perhaps that is the problem.
We’ve only used Elmers but have heard other PVA glue should work. Does your contact lens solution contain boric acid? That is usually the issue if you’re finding the slime is not forming properly.
How do you clean IT off of carpet and counter tops and bathroom counters?
Mix water and vinegar and use a rag to wipe and it will come right off most surfaces! 🙂
This turn out really good I love that u so much for sharing this to us
Did anyone see the brand name of the Contact Lens Solution? It says it is the best brand, but I don’t see the name.
Linda – we link to our recommended brand above, it is by Renu. Walmart Equate brand is good too.
