Supplies Needed
- Wax crayons separated by colors
- Silicon heart mold – this is the mold we used. You can also typically find silicone heart molds around Valentine’s Day at the dollar store.
- Medium bowl of warm water
- Washi tape or glue gun (adult assistance needed)
How to Make Heart Crayons
1. Soak crayons in warm warm and the labels will easily peel off.
Let the crayons dry or pat dry.
2. Sort crayons into colored piles (or similar hues).
You can also mix colors but we personally like to keep the colors sorted so when coloring with the finished hearts kids will know what color they are using.
Make sure the crayon pieces are broken into small pieces that will fit into your heart mold.
3. Place the pieces of crayon into the heart mold.
4. Preheat oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
5. Bake.
Place the filled mold onto a cookie sheet for stability.
Bake for approximately 15-20 minutes, or until crayons are fully melted. Adults must do this part.
6. Let the crayons cool.
Let crayons cool completely before popping them out of the mold.
7. Add to Valentines.
Once cooled, pop out and either glue or tape onto the printable Valentine.
You can use washi tape and add a small strip of tape over the heart, hot glue, or a glue dot to add the crayon to the Valentine’s cards.
