What kind of glue should I use?  Hot glue works best when working with egg cartons and buttons. But for younger children, we like to use an extra-strong non-toxic glue like this one. Just make sure to let it thoroughly dry and press and hold for the glue to take.

Directions To Make Egg Carton Christmas Crafts
Stacking the Egg Cartons
To stack the egg cartons on top of each other, you’ll need to add spacers in between so that they sit a little higher on top of each other. See the below image. You can create a small square piece and glue it to the top of the bottom piece. Then glue another piece on top.
Santa
1. Paint 3 egg carton cups – 2 red and 1 the color of your choice for the face. Glue and stack them on top of each other.
To stack your cups, you will need to add spacers in between to allow the cups to sit higher. In order to make the spacers, you will need to cut out a small strip from the egg carton lid. Fold the strip into a square. Glue this square to the top of one egg carton. Continue this step for the next cup.
Make the Santa hat by cutting out a red glitter paper circle. Make a slit in it and fold it around to form a cone. Trim off any excess from the hat as needed and glue together. Glue cotton balls around the brim of the hat and glue a white pom pom on top.
2. Glue the hat to the top egg carton.
3. Make the Santa face by gluing on googly eyes and a red pom pom nose. Add cotton balls around the face for the beard.
4. Glue on 2 small black buttons.

Make the elf ears by cutting out ear shapes with an extra flap at the end to glue down to the head. Paint these and then glue to the side of the elf face.
2. Make the elf face by gluing on googly eyes and a red pom pom nose. Add a smirk smile with a black sharpie. Add two small cheek marks with some pink paint.

Christmas Tree
1. Paint 3 egg carton cups green. Glue and stack them on top of each other.

Add a small hole in the top egg carton (adults should do this part) and glue a gold pipe cleaner with a gold glitter star on top. You can trace around a star shape or use a glitter paper foam star.
2. Glue on small pom poms for decorations. You can also decorate with sequins, glitter or buttons.
