Thankful Wreath Craft

Try this gratitude Thanksgiving activity by making your own thankful wreath craft. Kids can color and decorate the leaves and then add the things they are thankful for on the leaves. There is also a blank banner included to write their own message.

Thankful Leaf Wreath Craft

Supplies Needed

  • Printable leaf templates – get the free printable sent to you at the bottom of the post
  • Paint, markers, colored pencils, paint sticks or another coloring supply of your choice
  • Paper plate
  • Scissors – for cutting the paper plate and leaves
  • Glue – white or tacky glue to attach the leavess to the paper plate
  • Black Marker – for adding what you are thankful for
  • Twine – for hanging the wreath and adding a twine bow
  • Hot glue – for glue on the ribbon (with adult assistance)

How to Make a Thankful Paper Plate Wreath

1. Print off the free printable leaf templates.

Get the free printable templates sent to you at the bottom of the post and print them off on white paper or cardstock.

2. Color the leaves and thankful banner.

Use paint or markers to color the leaves. Be sure to color in at least 8 leaves to fill the wreath.

If you don’t want to use paint or markers, kids can use colored pencils, crayons, or even paint sticks instead.

Or, if you want to skip the coloring step completely, you can print directly onto colored paper or use the leaves as templates to trace onto construction paper.

3. Cut out the leaves.

Use scissors to cut out each leaf, so that you have at least 8 leaves.

4. Make the base of the wreath with a paper plate.

Cut out the middle circle of your paper plate, forming a wreath.

The thin plate that we used here has a circular indentation that is easy to follow when cutting out.

If your paper plate doesn’t have this, trace a round object onto the plate and then cut along this line.

5. Attach the leaves to the paper plate.

Gather up the 8 leaves and attach them to the paper plate using white glue, tape or tacky glue.

6. Add thankful words to the leaves.

Write different things you are thankful for on the leaves.

7. Add the thankful banner to wreath.

Glue the thankful banner in the center of the wreath. There is also a blank banner included that kids can write their own saying on the banner, like “I am thankful for”.

8. Add a bow to the wreath.

Tie some twine into a bow and hot glue it to the bottom center of the wreath (with adult assistance).

Take another piece of twine, form it into a loop, and attach it to the back of the wreath for hanging. You can hot glue or tape the loop to the back.

This thankful leaf wreath is a fun and easy gratitude activity for kids. The wreath looks great on a door or even just hanging on a wall.
