Fall Handprint Art Ideas

We have 5 cute handprint art ideas for fall! Choose from a turkey, apple, leaf, acorn or pumpkin! You can do painted handprints or if you skip down further you can see a few other handprint craft ideas made with paper.

Supplies to Make Fall Handprint Crafts

You only need a few supplies to make these painted fall handprints: 

Acrylic paint –  We like acrylic paint better than washable since it goes on brighter. Just make sure to protect surfaces and wash hands right away. If you’re doing the handprints for fun, washable works great! If you want them to be a keepsake, we recommend acrylic paint. Also make sure to check that the brand you’re using is non-toxic. Most are non-toxic but I like to check before I buy a new brand. You can get a whole set of colors here.

White Cardstock – print on white cardstock which is sturdier than regular paper or construction paper

Black Sharpie – outline with a black sharpie to make the handprint stand out more

Colored Pencils – use colored pencils or markers to add some of the extra details

Directions to Make Fall Handprints

Here are all of the step by step instructions for making these handprints.

Turkey Handprint

Add red, yellow, orange and green paint to the fingers and brown paint to the palm and thumb. Gently press down the whole hand onto white cardstock.

Once dry, add a small white circle for the eye with white paper or cardstock. Add a small dot inside the eye with a black marker.

Draw on the feet, beak and the wattle with pencil crayons.

Trace around the final handprint with a black marker or sharpie. Add a wing with the black sharpie on the palm area of the handprint. Add a small dot inside

Apple Handprint

Paint the whole hand red and gently press down on white cardstock. Allow the paint to dry.

Add a stem and leaf with paint or pencil crayons.

Trace around the final handprint with a black marker or sharpie.

Leaf Handprint

Paint the hand orange, red or yellow and gently press down on white cardstock. Add a stem with some extra paint on the bottom of the handprint.

Allow the paint to dry.

Once dry, trace around the final handprint with a black marker or sharpie. Then add some leaf veins inside the handprint.

Falling Leaves Handprint

Mix a few different colored handprints to make this falling leaves handprint collage! This would look great on a canvas too.

Follow the same steps but wash hands in between colors. We didn’t wait until each color dried, we painted right away. Just make sure to be careful around the other handprints so that you don’t smudge them when adding more.

Acorn Handprint

Paint the fingers and halfway down the palm with a light brown paint. Gently press onto white cardstock. If you have time, allow the first paint to dry.

Paint the bottom of the palm with a dark brown paint. Add on top of the light brown handprint to form the top of the acorn. Using a paintbrush, add the tip of the acorn.

Allow the paint to dry.

Once dry, trace around the final handprint with a black marker or sharpie. Then add diagonal lines to the dark brown part to make the top of the acorn.

Pumpkin Handprint

Add green paint to the fingers and orange paint to the palm and thumb. Gently press down on white cardstock.

Allow the  paint to dry. Then add some vines with a green pencil crayon or marker.

Once dry, trace around the final handprint with a black marker or sharpie. Add pumpkin lines to the palm area.
